The top newsletters on Substack's own leaderboard. Politics, culture and sports writers compete here for paying readers.
Newsletters climb when a writer breaks a story, launches with an existing audience or moves over from a newspaper. Political newsletters gain during election seasons and big news weeks, and sports writers rise when their season starts.
Readers commit to newsletters for months, so the chart is steadier than social charts. A new name entering the top 10 often marks a writer whose audience is growing fast.
